At least Harry got a huge amount of money from his parents, he wouldn’t need to worry. Money plays a big role in the wizarding world. If you have money, many doors open, if not … then not. Apparantly, some economics even tried to analyze it in a study called “Potterian economics”: https://academic.oup.com/ooec/article/doi/10.1093/ooec/odac004/6646895

Turned out the wizarding world is not much better than ours in this regard :(

Ah, there it is: " The wizards’ education system is publicly financed. It gives the students basic training and ensures that all wizards graduate with knowledge that allows them to find a job."

It didn’t seem better in almost any regard. One exception might be having GIFs work on printed paper. The other I can think of is making things bigger on the inside.

Man, and with a time turner and being able to apparate they can create a makeshift TARDIS.

True. I have seen leftist critics of Harry Potter pointing out how neoliberal it is. Funny but not surprising that neoliberals like it.

I woulnd’t necessarily call it neoliberal. Sure, money plays a crucial role but the ministry of magic has huge influence and schools are also in the public hand

It’s only called neoliberal because leftists have two labels for things they don’t like – neoliberal and fascist.

If you have money then you can be working with the literal devil of your world, everyone knows it, and they still let you retain your power and influence.

I’m not a marxist, but its counter-intuitive why it is this way, because here the workers actually have the means of production literary in their hands. In this world, with a wand everybody can do magic and you get the education to do it. idk

Haha yeah, it’s kind of funny but definitely creates a conflict so that’s good for storytelling. Plus un-restrained capitalism is so toxic it probably still would create scarcity somehow 😂 magic capitalism, who knows wtf they would be capable of.
