It’s though unknown if young mages are paying for their tuition or if it’s free for everyone\selectes few. What could it be if Harry didn’t have these piles of gold? Harry Potter and the Night Shifts at Hogsmeade?

IIRC it never mentions tuition specifically, but students do have to pay for books and supplies which could be expensive. I think in book 2 the new dark arts professor requires them to buy like all 20 of his books

They also might help with that in some cases even - like Tom Riddle had no money and lived in an orphanage and still went.

            Indeed:

            ‘Yes, sir,’ said Riddle again.
It was impossible to tell what he was thinking; his face remained quite blank as he put the little cache of stolen objects back into the cardboard box. When he had finished he turned to Dumbledore and said baldly, ‘I haven’t got any money.’
‘That is easily remedied,’ said Dumbledore, drawing a leather money-pouch from his pocket. ‘There is a fund at Hogwarts for those who require assistance to buy books and robes. You might have to buy some of your spellbooks and so on second-hand, but –’
‘Where do you buy spellbooks?’ interrupted Riddle, who had taken the heavy money-bag without thanking Dumbledore, and was now examining a fat gold Galleon.

One of his worst traits. Ordinary kid, gets bullied, turns out to be part of a secret blood cult
    (uh-huh, I’m on board)
Is a secret prince of said cult, and is also rich and famous and can do whatever he wants
    (ah fuck, what a shame)
Uses fame and fortune to influence world politics, and becomes a symbol for cult members
    (whelp…)
