  • Not a weird argument, that’s the same logic you used. Just because some kids might not agree with your decisions as a parent, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t make that decision. Caring what others think about your parenting style is exactly why we have so many messed up kids in the first place.

  • “Ha your parents don’t even let you do underage drinking, drugs and other shady activities?”

Same argument. You don’t relinquish your authority and protection as a parent because a few losers want to make fun of your kid for being raised with a mom and dad who actually give a crap about their upbringing.

  • I’ve come to find that people with their hearts in the right place (such as yourself) are often attacked or ostracized on the Fediverse, especially Lemmy.

How DARE a person express traditional values??? How DARE a parent not want to be an iPad parent and let their kids do whatever they want???

It’s mind blowing and it drives me further and further away from Lemmy on the regular. Keep up the good parenting and if I could offer my advice? Find a better place to ask for things like this, because all you’ll get are moronic replies like half the replies here.

  • I’m not saying I support this legislation but I’m really sick of the “parents should be parenting” excuse. Parents can be doing a great job with their kids and those kids will still see porn because of the way platforms push things (not to mention the ease of access of porn, which just needs to be outright banned).

The only solution, barring well-written legislation, is to not allow your kid to have a smartphone until they’re late teenagers, and ensure their access to computers is restricted to a public room, with appropriate monitoring.

That’s my plan whenever I have kids. However, something tells me a lot of people on Lemmy will take issue with that approach.

  • I personally see Peertube as something that’d be better as a small-scale, reasonably low-key way of storing and sharing videos if you’re not interested in monetization or views. For example, documentation for a passion project.

For everything else, a different form of decentralization makes more sense, such as Odysee (though we’ll see how the Arweave migration goes).

  • Yep, this is pretty much what I was expecting to hear. You know you can block channels/accounts you don’t like, no? I don’t believe in censorship of legal speech. As long as no violence is being threatened, as long as drugs aren’t being sold and as long as children are not being harmed, it falls under the first amendment. If I don’t like what someone says, I just block them because that’s what the internet was always about: free expression, even of ideals we don’t like or agree with.

  • Those reasons are all pretty goofy in my book. I use Brave on a daily basis on all my PCs. Only browser out there that offers both good privacy and actual usability. Plus, the first issue in the article is literally a nonissue for me and I actually personally really like the leadership at the company.
