I kinda disagree. Social media, even this very harmless version of it, is great for building opinions. But it’s not great at making stuff happen in the real world. I will never meet anyone from Lemmy. It might be comforting to write about guillotines here, posting angry articles, but we in general and especially you Americans need to leave this save zone and actually do something. Fast. With your bodies. In the real world. Show up! Being online is a trap, it makes you feel like you’re participating while it eats you time and kills your energy. Greta Thunberg stopped going to school, wrote a sign and sat down.
Get Signal, gather some local people and do stuff.
Edit:
I agree it can be a challenge. Showing up and meeting a handful of people in the rain can be frustrating and disappointing. But there is no other way and these are real life experiences you will talk and bond about. Sorry for the pep talk. :)
Edit:
I’m not saying you should leave. I love Lemmy! Use it as a tool, not a solution. And a messenger is much more helpful to organize you locally.
Thanks! This sounded very promising but I don’t get any errors from git fsck
, so I have to keep looking for other solutions.
Since the update my pi-hole is stoll blocking stuff, but I can not reach the interface anymore. I’m on DietPi and use Unbound as well.
Wanna watch it with my 6 and 9 year olds soon. Is it that sad?! I skipped through it and it looked nice.
Probably no, as its firmware auto-updates and they closed the jailbreak a year or two ago. But who knows, put it in airplane mode and check it.
Wait, rainbow capitalism wasn’t sincere?!
Everybody: Fuck Peter Thiel, fuck Elon Musk, fuck Honey, Fuck PayPal
Everybody: unflinchingly using PayPal
I don’t think so, this is rather complex video editing software and I never heard about anyone running it in a VM. Maybe I’ll give it a try someday.
Exactly the same setup and experience here. Work forces me to use an inferior application in windows instead of a more powerful option in Linux and it boils my blood.
FUCK CONTENT, LET ALL THE MINDLESS DISTRACTION DIE, WE’D BE BETTER OFF IN THE STREETS, SPENDING TIME TOGETHER, BUILDING SOMETHING, ACTUALLY TALKING TO EACH OTHER!
Says a tiny edgelord in me. I would never write something like this, I’m an adult.
I recommend SLDL, it takes some nerves to set up but then it reads Spotify-playlists and batch downloads them from Soulseek.
Not having children is an interesting topic I’d like to know more about. Do you have any good talks or lectures about it? I mean, we are on this planet because life propagates, it’s baked into the core of every living thing. I wouldn’t say we have to have kids, but it’s a driving force behind a lot of stuff that we do. And it is such a journey! I know kids emit co2, but to me, telling people not to have kids feels like giving up on hope and on life itself.
And I know earth is getting crowded, too. But the western world is not growing at all, other places do. So I’d say, let’s make life over there better and safer, so families over there don’t have to rely on children to look after them when the get old. Like Europe and the US did like a century ago.

I don’t agree. The comment points out the single most effektive move an individal without political nor financial power can make to cut personal co2-emissions with just a change of habit. It’s not about veganism, animal rights or your health, it’s just about sanity. Us still eating meat even though we know better is an incredibly dumb waste of energy for the sake of pleasure, exactly like this shitty powereating globe.
As long as >95% of the global population still consumes meat I understand the urge to bring this topic everywhere.
Probably preaching to the choir here, but breaking up with Adobe is great :)
